Chael Sonnen, the man who defeated Paulo Filho, the long time friend and training partner of UFC middleweight champion, Anderson Silva, has confirmed that his first fight in the UFC will indeed be against “The Spider” and likely be for the UFC title.
Speaking to GracieMag.com, Sonnen confirmed:
“Yes, it’s confirmed. Once I’m in the UFC I’ll fight Anderson Silva. I think he’s a great fighter, but I’m only going to start thinking about that after my fight with Paulo Filho. If you want to ask me about it after tonight, I’ll be happy to answer.”
The interview was conducted before his fight at WEC 36 against Filho, therefore making the match more likely given the outcome. Sonnen may prove to be a hard sell to the casual UFC fans who will know nothing about the middleweight star, especially pitting him against the best in the world.
