Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson will not be fighting Rashad Evans at UFC 98, it was confirmed today.
UFC president Dana White told Yahoo! Sports that the former light-heavyweight champion needs surgery and will not be able to fight.
Rampage has ligament damage to the jaw and also a hyper-extended left elbow.
Evans will now face Lyoto Machida at UFC 98
“A lot of people were complaining to me that Lyoto should have had the shot first. I think it’s going to be a great fight and Rampage can go get himself healthy.
”
He added; “It’s not the end of the world because we have a great fight to put on. It shows you the kind of guy that Rampage is that he was willing to sacrifice and take this fight because we needed him. You don’t forget things like that. But we’re lucky because we have a great fight to put in there and we don’t have problems.”
